Leader of the mission, General Olesegun Obasanjo in a meeting with President John Mahama said the elections had been generally peaceful and successful.
In his opinion, one of the main blotches on the process was the difficulty encountered with the use of the verification machines at some polling stations.
Nigeria’s former President said Ghana had once again confirmed to Africa and the rest of the world that its democracy has advanced.
“On behalf of ECOWAS and the AU we [ECOWAS Mission] appreciate [you] allowing us to be witness to another block on the edifice of this country; building a house of democratic nation and free fair and peaceful election.”
“We believe that if we should be moving towards taking peace for granted then elections will be just one of those things.”
According to General Obasanjo, “I think after Senegal, Ghana now will be regarded as second in the vanguard, and I hope we (Nigeria) will join you soon. So we thank you and wish you and your country well.”
On his part, President Mahama expressed his appreciation to the ECOWAS Observer Mission for the role they played in facilitating a successful elections.
