Contrary to public perception that Ghanaian Afro-Pop musician, Wanlov the Kubolor is an atheist who has purposed to taunt and torment believers especially on social media platforms, the controversial musician says he believes God exists.
Speaking to Laila Abubakari on The Late Nite Celebrity Show on Friday night, Wanlov indicated on e.tv Ghana that he believes there is Supreme Being but followers of God have painted a wrong picture of Him propelling his action at times.
“No, I am not an atheist. I believe in God,” he told host Laila Abubakari.
Asked why it has become a hobby for him to seemingly mock religious folk time without number, he said: “I don’t think religion has spirituality in it. God is about spirituality and religion means doing something over and over again, so it doesn’t really mean it is a spiritual thing.”
“For me, people think I am anti-Christian or anti-Muslim but I only say certain things and tease people that behave in certain ways because some of us here in Ghana, we suffer at the mercy of religion.”
Acknowledging the fact that he doesn’t belong to any religious faith, he stated that “I believe in the basic laws that all these religions have.”
Wanlov has over a long period stayed controversial with his pronouncements and posts on especially social media platforms with the most recent being a picture of himself and his associate, Mensa, standing nude by a river.
Evident of his stance, the ‘Human Being’ singer on Sunday, August 25 posted on his Facebook wall how unaligned he is with any religious body.
“I belong to no church or no one…I am free…” Wanlov added to his line-up of controversial posts on Sundays.
Wanlov confirmed to Laila Abubakari that he has stood a lot of abuse from followers on social media for his comments at times with some pointing the hottest part of hell as his eventual place of abode after death.
“If I listen to people I think I have to believe that I am going to hell. So I kind of believe that.
“Some people tell me I have a special VIP session of fire because I am more than bad.”
Touching on other issues, Wanlov revealed that he has four kids with four different women and is expecting the fifth somewhere in January 2014 with a Japanese.
“I have four children with four different women. In January, I will have one more child in Japan (with a Japanese)
Wanlov denied leaking the nude image of himself and Mensa on social media saying some lady friends might have leaked them after sending them the nudes.
“I leaked that one picture to five different girls. I didn’t give different pictures. Now the picture is out there and I don’t know which of the five girls put the picture on the internet.”
Wanlov the Kubolor will be playing at a show in Accra on Wednesday dubbed ‘Gargantuan Hip Hop Heavy Weights.”
With other acts such as Yaa Pono, Elom 20Ce, Joey Le Soldat and Art Melody performing at the show, Wanlov is charging Ghc 2 for entry.
