Ahead of World Cup: Fatau Dauda to get more first team chances

By on

downloadOrlando Pirated coach Roger De Sa has given the biggest indication of his readiness to hand Ghana goalkeeper Fatau Dauda more games as the World Cup draws closer.

The first choice Black Stars goalkeeper is yet to make his official debut for the South African giants since his arrival at the start of the season.

Dauda was impressive in Pirates’ 2-0 win over AC Leopards in a friendly on Tuesday as the side finalizes its preparations for the start of the second half of the season.

Concerns are rife in Ghana of Dauda’s lack of first team opportunities with the Buccaneers, with some suggesting the 28-year-old moves on loan in search of regular first team action to keep him sharp as the World Cup approaches.

Pirates, however, remain adamant to let the Ghana international leave – insisting he is an integral part of the squad.

Coach De Sa who was reprimanded by the club for saying Dauda is his third choice goalkeeper, now appears to be ready to give the Ghanaian more playing time following his impressive performance in Tuesday’s friendly win.

“Dauda got a full game today. It was very important that we get him as ready as possible because he has a big year ahead with the World Cup,” he said.

Dauda has put himself in line to play his first official game for Pirates when the South African top flight resumes this weekend.

The Buccaneers will be at home in the top liner against SuperSport United on Saturday.
