Floyd Mayweather Junior’s remarkable winning run continued as he added the WBA welterweight title to his WBC belt by beating Marcos Maidana.
Mayweather showed his class against Maidana, although one judge bizarrely scored the contest a draw.
He won on a majority decision after Michael Pernick somehow saw the fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena a draw.
His winning margin was much greater than that and he took charge of the fight after an explosive start by Maidana.
Mayweather claimed he would be prepared to offer Maidana a rematch in September if the fans wanted it.
Maidana felt he had won and said: “Yes, I will give him a rematch. I’m not scared of him, so why not give him a rematch?”
The Argentine came out all guns blazing and put Mayweather under pressure, unloading a flurry of punches.
His fans roared him on as he pinned Mayweather against the ropes, but he failed to land many on the champion.
Mayweather received attention for a small cut above his right eye at the end of the fourth, which he claimed came from a butt.
The South American kept coming and Mayweather landed a big, looping overhand right.
He also connected with a left jab right on the button and Mayweather was not having it all his own way in this fight.
Mayweather caught Maidana with a couple of lovely left hooks to the side of the head towards the end of the sixth and a stinging right.
Mayweather showed great skill and in the seventh, when Maidana had him back against the ropes, he unleashed a series of right and left hooks to his head before he spun him round into the corner.
Maidana finally hurt the WBC champ in the eighth, but with a low blow, which left him grimacing.
Mayweather landed two right hands in quick succession as Maidana came forward. He showed his his class as he picked off Maidana and evaded his shots.
He hurt Maidana in the 10th with a big overhand right to his chin.
The crowd rose to their feet for the final 10 seconds and both fighters raised their arms at the end before embracing.
But there was only one winner and it was Mayweather – again.
