David Moyes faces a crucial seven days at Real Sociedad after a last minute goal on Saturday night against Espanyol condemned his side to defeat leaving him with no wins from his first four games of the season.
The former Everton and Manchester United manager watched his side surrender all three points to Espanyol in the 90th minute of their home game. The 3-2 defeat left them fourth from bottom with just two points from four games.
He now takes his team to Granada on Tuesday before next weekend’s Basque derby against Athletic Bilbao which could decide if he stays in San Sebastian or if he parts company with the club he joined less than a year ago after departing Old Trafford.
Moyes did not get what he wanted in the transfer market this summer with £12.5m spent on former Real Sociedad midfielder Asier Illaramendi’s return to the club, after his failed spell at Real Madrid, but no cash made available to bring in Arsenal forward Joel Campbell.
Moyes has also fallen out with Mexican striker Carlos Vela. He has scored 57 goals in 162 games for the club but looked short of fitness since his return to training this summer and admitted last week that he could move in January.
Moyes is yet to see his team win and although there was a vast improvement in their performance against Espanyol they were undone by bad luck with keeper Gerónimo Rulli sent off. With ten men they battled to what looked like a 2-2 draw but then conceded a late Hernán Pérez winner.
New signing Jonathas got his first goal of the season and Moyes is determined to turn things around but the club’s president Jokin Aperribay will be under pressure to make a change if they lose in midweek and to great rivals Athletic Bilbao next weekend.
