Investigations conducted by DAILY GUIDE indicated that the vehicle was heading towards the police station when it allegedly knocked down three persons who were on a motorbike, killing them instantly.
The incident attracted residents in the area who purportedly rushed to the scene and set the vehicle ablaze; but the policemen on board were able to escape attack.
The deceased persons are Basit Abdulia, a JSS 2 student; Ibrahim Yajing, a farmer and one Owusu, a drinking bar operator, whose body has since been sent to his hometown – Techimantia – in the Brong-Ahafo Region.
Information available to the paper indicates that the vehicle was donated to the police by the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Joseph Naabu, to assist them in their fight against crime in the district.
The Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, who confirmed the incident to DAILY GUIDE, said it was claimed that the patrol vehicle was on top speed as it was heading to the station but unfortunately, it run into the three persons who were on the motorbike by the side of the road.
According to ASP Tetteh, the patrol men were going back to the station with a suspect who had escaped arrest and had later been apprehended at his hideout when the accident occurred.
He indicated that investigation had commenced into the matter and that anybody found culpable would be brought to book.
