WITH barely 100 days to the start of the 2017 Total Africa Cup of Nations to be staged in Gabon, the Confederation of African Football- organisers of the tournament – have held a five-day course for referees in a bid to refresh their knowledge and skills.
The course, attended by the topmost African referees and Assistant referees, was held from September 24 to 28 in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.
The aim of the training was to update the participants on the Laws of the Game as well as evaluate their fitness and technical abilities for the upcoming major competitions next year such as the 2017 Cup of Nations, the U-20 Cup of Nations in Zambia, and the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Madagascar.
The participating referees were taken through theoretical topics including amendments to the Laws of the Game, and Match analysis. They were also taken through a physical test.
Twenty-three referees and twenty-five assistant referees took part in the five day course.
