Kwesi Nyantakyi retains FIFA Council seat

NYANTEKYI GFA NEWTHE President of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi, has retained his seat on THE FIFA Executive Council after beating off competition from Leodagar Tenga of Tanzania.

The feat means Kwesi Nyantakyi will be part of the core team that FIFA President Gianni Infantino will work with over the next four years.

Kwesi Nyantakyi garnered 33 votes to beat his Leodegar Tenga, who managed 20 votes in the election of members on the FIFA Executive Council held on Thursday March 16 in Ethiopia.

Kwesi Nyantakyi was first elected onto the FIFA Council six months ago but his latest victory gets him a guaranteed four-year term.

His victory comes as huge relief for him because his competitor, Tenga, was seen as one of Issa Hayatou’s protégé’s prior to the election.

But once CAF boss Issa Hayatou lost his position to Ahmad Ahmad in the early hours of Thursday, it became almost obvious that Nyantakyi would retain his position on the Council.

The 47-year-old Kwesi Nyantaky has been the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) since 2005.

His administration has seen the Black Stars qualify for three consecutive FIFA World Cups, but the four times champions of Africa are yet to end their continental trophy drought since 1982.
