Known on his birth certificate as Josep Nana Kwame Nkrumah Buabeng, Nero X, an award winning Artiste is set to tour 20 Senior High Schools (SHSs) in the Western Region on Tramadol abuse awareness campaign.
Dubbed ‘Say No To Tramadol Abuse’ Nero X who won this year’s Western Music Awards’ Best Highlife Artist of the year has expressed concern about the upsurge of the abuse of Tramadol amongst the youth in Ghana.
“I intend to do this a national campaign but for now I want to start from home (Western Region). I have been listening to the news and reading online how the youth are deeply into the Tramadol abuse lately and I am worried” Nero X expressed.
Tramadol, according to Free Encyclopaedia, “is a pain relief drug used to treat moderate to moderately severe pain and must be strictly used under a medical professional’s prescription. Once in the body, tramadol attaches itself to the brain’s pain receptors, ultimately locking the sensation of pain and decreasing the brain’s perception of pain.
It is a central nervous system depressant, which could slow down brain activity and function and could lead one into confusion, loss of consciousness, brain damage, respiratory depression, liver disease and renal dysfunction,”
On Social media where the campaign is gaining grounds, Nana Kwesi Coomson, Public and Media Relations Officer for Westline Entertainment, organizers of the campaign wrote;
“We are concerned. We are deeply concerned about the upsurge of tramadol abuse amongst the youth. We won’t sit with our hands in our laps and later regret. Join this and let’s tell the youth of Western Region
