Ghana Football Association banned

The High Court has placed  an interim injunction on the activities of Ghana Football Association, following a legal suit brought before it by the Attorney General, Gloria Akuffo.

The court’s order restraints the GFA  and all members from conducting any official business for the next 10 days. By the order of the court, the association cannot among other things organise football matches.

Officials of GFA are also barred from carrying out all officials duties such as selling of the association’s assets, appointment and election of officials and other official duties.

The Attorney General, Gloria Akuffo filed an ex-parte motion on behalf of government at the High Court for the dissolution of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) after its top officials were implicated in Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ Number 12 exposé.

The Attorney General had argued that the GFA was being used for illegal purposes and was therefore the responsibility of government to protect the interest of the public.

The Attorney General argued the GFA was being used for illegal purposes thus deems it necessary dissolving the association.

Information Minister, Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid had issued a statement  admitting that the exposé by the investigative journalist’s Tiger Eye PI team titled ‘Number 12: When Misconduct and Greed become the Norm’ “exposes the gross mal-functioning of the Ghana Football Association” and that government was taking steps to dissolve the association.

Government’s decision has been met with fierce resistance from sections of the public and government officials, including Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga who describes it as “overkill”.

Meanwhile, the Criminal investigation Department of the Ghana Police Service has started investigations into the operations of the GFA.
