Mahama’s Comeback backed by 94 NDC MPs

By on

About 94 National Democratic Congress Members of Parliament have thrown their weight behind the candidature of John Mahama ahead of the party’s presidential primaries.

The MPs, according to Builsa South lawmaker Clement Apaak, have signed a document declaring their support for the former President who led the party in the 2016 defeat.

Mr. Mahama who is likely to contest the flagbearer slot for the umbrella family will have to beat competition from former UPSA vice-chancellor Professor Joshua Alabi, Second deputy speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, former NHIA boss Sylvester Mensah and his former Trade minister Dr. Ekwow Spio Garbrah.

Although Yunyoo MP Joseph Bipoba Naabu claims he has been deceived into signing the Mahama endorsement, Mr. Apaak who is among the MPs canvassing for the endorsement, told Francis Abban on the Morning Starr Wednesday that Mr. Naabu has not signed up as he claims.

“A list was signed by 94 members of parliament to show that they supported the idea that Mahama leads us in 2020. Anyone who knows how parliament works knows that attendance sheets are not signed in the house but a room dedicated for that purpose. Clearly, Hon. Naabu never signed, It is on authority that I tell you this. Nobody took any list to the house of parliament as alleged. Our constituents want us to throw our weight behind Mahama and that is what we have to do for the people. I don’t see why someone wants to stop us,” he said.

Commenting on the development, pollster Ben Ephson said the NDC is in a psychological warfare ahead of its presidential primaries.

“What is happening in the NDC is just a psychological warfare. This is an empty thunder. If a person is not happy with the endorsement of John Mahama, the fellow can equally get others to endorse him as well”.
