Anas Bags $11k Journalism Excellence Diadem In India

Award-winning journalist and lawyer Anas Aremeyaw Anas has been awarded the 2016  Excellence in Print Journalism at the 10th KCK Award for Excellence in Journalism.

A story in the Crusading Guide newspaper, ‘Anas Floors Derry’, which follows 2016 judicial expose’ that highlighted corruption in Ghana’s judiciary won the award at a gala held on September 17, 2018, at the Taj Mahal Hotel, New Delhi, India.

Tiger Eye’s Asia representative, Sameer Tembe picked up the award on behalf of Anas.

The ‘KC Kulish International Award for Excellence in Journalism’ was instituted in 2007 to promote the best works of journalist teams.  It is also to recognise journalists around the world who fight for human rights and freedom through journalistic practice.

It is the world’s largest journalism award in terms of prize money.

This is the second time Anas has won this prestigious award.

In 2009, the then Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh gave the award to Anas Aremeyaw Anas and his Ghana team for stories on Ghana’s Madhouse and Chinese Sex Mafia.

Malaysia’s Ian Yee of the RAGE Investigative Journalism team won the 2017-KCK Award for his story on ‘Students Trafficked’ which exposed an international human trafficking syndicate operating through Malaysian colleges.

Established in memory of the founder of Rajasthan Patrika, a Hindu language newspaper, Karpoor Chandra Kulish, the award has seen some notable investigative journalists been rewarded.

Among them is Wanjohi Kabukuru from Kenya who won the award for the story, “How East Africa Lost Its Innocence” in New African magazine, London in 2014.
