World Bank Group mourns Kofi Annan

The World Bank Group Vice President, Yvonne Manu Tsikata, has expressed condolences to the family of the late former UN Secretary-General, Kofi Annan.

“As a proud fellow Ghanaian, I share the sadness of all my countrymen and women in mourning the loss of one of our finest sons,” she said on behalf of the World Bank Group in a statement.

As the liaison between World Bank Group management and its, member countries, she also expressed the “condolences of our entire organization to Nane, their family, the good people of Ghana and all who must bear the passing of Busumuru Kofi Annan. May the soul of this true son of Africa and global citizen Rest in Perfect Peace.”

Kofi Annan died on 18 August in Switzerland at the age of 80.

He was the first black UN Secretary-General, from 1997 to 2006.

Kofi Annan was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2001 for breathing new life into the UN amid the Iraq War and the HIV/Aids pandemic.

He was buried Kofi Annan at the Military Cemetery in Accra on Thursday.
